What Happens If the Bottom Bracket on an Electric Bike Breaks?

  • 30 April 2025

If the Bottom Bracket in the crank pedal area is problematic, then the condition that occurs is that the crank pedal rotates when the unit is running, and continues to rotate when the gas is released.

The rotation of the crank pedal triggers the activation of the pedal assist sensor.

The way to handle it is to check the condition of the bottom bracket.

Open the cover of the e-moped's lower deck.

Open the crank cover under the seat, then open the lock on the bottom bracket.

If the bolts on the bottom bracket are loose, tighten them using a chisel.

After the bolts are tight and properly installed, test the unit by operating the throttle grip while checking whether the crank pedal is still rotating or not.

If there is no rotation, close the bottom bracket lock properly.

Reinstall the crank cover.

Finally, close the lower deck cover tightly.
